PHOTOGRAPHED BY OUR TEAMCare begins with
understanding.
Rug fringe is often the first area to show wear, yellowing, and soil accumulation. Because fringe fibers are typically cotton or silk and more exposed than pile fibers, they require dedicated attention. Our fringe cleaning process uses gentle hand-washing techniques and targeted brightening treatments to remove discoloration, restore a clean appearance, and give your rug a polished, finished look.
We discuss the condition, recommended treatment and expected outcome with you. The appropriate method is selected after inspection; not every treatment is suitable for every rug.
Fringe Cleaning in the Financial District
On a hand knotted rug, the warp itself runs out past the last row of knots to form the fringe; on a lot of machine made rugs the fringe is a separate trim sewn on afterward. The difference matters at home. Warp fringe that wears away starts to take knots with it, so a frayed end is worth showing us early, while a sewn trim that comes loose can simply be pointed out. Household bleach does more harm than good on either kind, since chlorine weakens cotton. In the Financial District, where towers of 20 floors or more hold three in four homes, even a fringe cleaning usually means a freight elevator booking, so if the whole rug is due for a wash as well, ask for both in one visit.
