Homes
in Jersey City.

The U.S. Census Bureau counts 135,231 homes in Jersey City, and the numbers here cover the whole city, from the waterfront to the Heights and Greenville. Large buildings of ten or more homes hold 45 percent, the towers of Exchange Place and Newport among them. Buildings of two to nine homes hold 41 percent: the brownstones around Hamilton Park, the rowhouses of Paulus Hook, and the two family frame houses common in the Heights. Single family houses account for 14 percent, and renters occupy 72 percent of homes. Buildings from before 1940 hold 29 percent of homes and those from 2000 or later 30 percent, with 1971 as the median year built.

Pickups in Jersey City split two ways. In the waterfront towers and the other buildings of ten or more homes, 45 percent of the total, a concierge or a management office usually sets the delivery hours and the entrance, so put both in the Building access box. In a brownstone or a two family house, give the floor, say whether the rug comes out by the front door or a side door, and tell us if a loading zone or a driveway is close by.
