PHOTOGRAPHED BY OUR TEAMCare begins with
understanding.
Rug fringe is often the first area to show wear, yellowing, and soil accumulation. Because fringe fibers are typically cotton or silk and more exposed than pile fibers, they require dedicated attention. Our fringe cleaning process uses gentle hand-washing techniques and targeted brightening treatments to remove discoloration, restore a clean appearance, and give your rug a polished, finished look.
We discuss the condition, recommended treatment and expected outcome with you. The appropriate method is selected after inspection; not every treatment is suitable for every rug.
Fringe Cleaning in the East Village and Lower East Side
On a machine made rug, the fringe is usually sewn on along the ends, while on a hand-knotted rug it is the warp itself running out of the weave. The difference matters. Sewn fringe is a trim; warp fringe holds the last rows of knots, and once it wears away, the knots begin to come loose. Look at the back to see which kind you have: warp fringe comes straight out of the knotted body. Cotton fringe of either kind browns when it dries slowly, so dry a wet end quickly with a fan. With 2,598 residential buildings here, many of them prewar with radiators near the floor, keep fringe off a hot radiator, which dries and browns cotton.
