PHOTOGRAPHED BY OUR TEAMCare begins with
understanding.
Handmade rugs, whether hand-knotted, hand-tufted, or flatwoven, represent a personal investment in craftsmanship. Each piece has unique characteristics that demand individualized attention. Our specialists examine the weave structure, fiber blend, and dye method of every handmade rug before designing a custom cleaning plan. This ensures the artisan's work is preserved while delivering a deep, revitalizing clean.
We discuss the condition, recommended treatment and expected outcome with you. The appropriate method is selected after inspection; not every treatment is suitable for every rug.
Handmade Rug Cleaning in the Financial District
A hand tufted rug is made by hand, yet its pile is held in place by a latex backing, and that latex dries out with age. As it ages the backing can crumble into a fine powder under the rug, and a soaking loosens it further, so tell us on the pickup tag if you see powder on the floor when you lift a corner. A kilim or a dhurrie, woven flat with no backing at all, has the opposite weakness and can shrink or ripple if it dries carelessly. In the condominiums that hold 46 percent of homes in the Financial District, the managing agent may have to approve the visit, so ask for a time before you request the pickup.
