01UNDERSTANDING YOUR PIECE

Care begins with
understanding.

Handmade rugs, whether hand-knotted, hand-tufted, or flatwoven, represent a personal investment in craftsmanship. Each piece has unique characteristics that demand individualized attention. Our specialists examine the weave structure, fiber blend, and dye method of every handmade rug before designing a custom cleaning plan. This ensures the artisan's work is preserved while delivering a deep, revitalizing clean.

We discuss the condition, recommended treatment and expected outcome with you. The appropriate method is selected after inspection; not every treatment is suitable for every rug.

Handmade Rug Cleaning in the East Village and Lower East Side

Strong reds and indigo blues in handmade rugs can migrate when the rug gets wet, leaving a pink or blue haze in the lighter colors beside them. If a spill or a leak has already made colors run, do not wet the area again or try to scrub it; let it dry flat and tell us when you book, because the sooner it is treated, the more can be done. Each handmade piece is assessed for its weave and dyes before washing. Flatweaves can also shrink if they dry unevenly. The 2,598 residential buildings here run from tenements to towers; tell us which kind is yours and the floor, so we know how the rug will leave the building.
